in honor of the hounding i've received to update my xanga site...here is my "top 10 favorite things about being home" list (in no particular order cuz they're all great!):

1. late night games of Halo with my dad...yes, we bought it and play it together. i officially have the COOLEST dad ever

2. getting awakened by my dog every morning at 7 am....every morning. why? beats me...

3. warm weather...i'd forgotten how glorious the weather is in TX!!

4. driving with the windows rolled down and country music blaring in the car - it gets even better when my dog is along for the ride. we have a lot of fun.

5. seeing old friends again and remembering how amazing my childhood was...i'm probably one of the most nostalgic people...ever.

6. playing fetch with my dog...he'll bring you his ball, lay it in your hand, and then perk his ears and look at you until you throw the ball. if you put the ball down, he'll repeat the process. if you put it down again...well, you get the idea!

7. eating. for free. i love eating for free.

8. sitting with my family at church. nothing beats that!!

9. Taco Bueno...aka: cheap tex-mex.

10. my mom is a huge fan of lots of the old tv shows (I Love Lucy, The Waltons, The Cosby Show, The Andy Griffith Show, etc) and we own tons of DVDs of early seasons, so when I go home I get to spend the first few days sitting in front of the tv watching hours and hours of old tv shows without commericals!

oooh...gotta go and beat my dad at halo...he just figured out where the control panel is...ah!

wow...it's the end of october, it's cold as heck, and it's raining. i'm sitting here in a navy blue nursing shirt, some brown cords, a new pair of fuzzie socks my mom sent me as an "i love you" present and i'm thinking about how tired, frazzled, and worn out i'm beginning to feel. grades haven't been as high as i'd hoped lately...despite the fact that i'm working harder than i've ever worked in my life. i can't remember the last time i hung out with friends for the heck of a spontaneous evening out or just chatted because i had the time. just when i think i've learned something, someone seems to want to tell me that there is something i didn't think about. i'm not feeling beaten down...just...hm...

it's weird....i'm stressed, i'm tired, and i'm feeling a little drained...but i'm happy. i can't remember ever doing anything i loved so much as serving patients, critically thinking how the body works, and finding new ways to encounter my Creator and Savior in the suffering around me. yet i wouldn't trade it for the world! My Father has taken my lack of a social life and turned it into a tangible dynamic daily encounter with Him. My Savior has shown me how to trust Him as He heals parts of my sin infested heart i didn't even know existed. His Spirit has taught me how to listen quietly to hear the whispers of a God who loves me more than I even knew possible. This same triune God also gives me rest and more joy than i have would ever dare to ask.

"I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for hte LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage..." (Psalm 27:14)

Favorite memories from summer thus far...

1. standing in a thick collection of fireflies at 8 pm one night in the middle of the city

2. beginning my annual reread of Pride & Prejudice (will they get together again this year???)

3. late night wawa runs for Dove Ganache chocolate brownie affair ice cream to wash down the house dinners (mmmmm...)
